JOHN SMITH & SONS, CLERKENWELL, ENGLAND, 1874. SOLD

Three train, hour and quarter hour strike. Cast iron, modified flat bed and plate frame. Graham dead beat escapement with bolt and shutter maintaining power. One and one-half second wooden rod pendulum with massive (120 lb.) cylindrical bob. 30"h x 45 3/4"w x 24"d.

The clock employs a visually complex system of levers, stops and cams for the strike work. This type of system is unique to some English tower clock makers and is taken to an extreme in this movement. The last picture is a from a Smiths catalog 1880. Note the difference in the pilot dial. The dial on this clock is a brass dial disk that has the name of the installer (or retailer).
